Welcome to Headwaters History Days 2018
We are working to finalize information on three days of events, June 8th - 10th.
Check back soon!

Headwaters History Days 2017 is a weekend of events, exhibits, open houses and activities celebrating the history, culture, folklife and landscape of the Central Catskills.

Taking place on June 16th, 17th and 18th, we mark our fourth year of highlighting our area's rich history.

We invite you to ramble along The Catskill Mountains Scenic Byway to explore 12 special sites across two counties.  Follow the East Branch of the Delaware River and its tributaries through the towns of Middletown and Roxbury in Delaware County and over the divide at Highmount to the Esopus Creek town of Shandaken in Ulster County.

Museums, landmark structures and historic sites will be open to the public at no charge this weekend.  Special events include a walking tour, two local history talks and guided visits to numerous historic sites.

Two former stations on the Ulster & Delaware Railroad will be open,  in Roxbury and Phoenicia.  A pair of “District #10” schools that are now museums in Dunraven and Pine Hill will welcome visitors.

Find out about Fleischmanns’ railroad history in a talk at Skene Library. Learn all  about the rich local history at the Greater Fleischmanns Museum of Memories.

A special program at the Historical Society of the Town of Middletown will delve into the history of near-by Highmount.

Climb the stairs of the Roxbury Methodist Church tower to see (and hear!) a venerable clock chime the hour.  Visit the exquisite church  and public park built by the Goulds of Roxbury.

In Kelly Corners, watch a complex network of belts and pulleys power a sawmill in a 150-year-old barn at Hubbell Homestead farm. Visit the historic farm as well.  Then, visit the Pakatakan Farmers Market housed in the iconic Kelly Brothers Round Barn. There will be a demo of historic spinning wheels and weaving items.

Headwaters History Days is a feast for those who love the Catskills and its colorful past!  History lives on the Catskill Mountains Scenic Byway!
